How To Clean Hardwood Floors

Do you want to make your hardwood floors sparkle and shine? Then you have come to the right place. If there is anything that BlueFox Cleaning knows, it is how to make homes sparkle and shine!

It is not too difficult of a task to achieve when it comes to your floors, mainly if the floors have been well maintained so far. While learning how to spruce up your floors isn’t a complex task, it does require some consideration if you want to avoid destroying your floor’s hardwood. So now, let’s look and see how to clean your hardwood floors correctly.

How To Clean Hardwood Floors

Regardless of the specific type of wood, the procedures for cleaning hardwood floors are alike. However, you should always check the manufacturer’s advice for your floor as there may be features unique to their brand. Otherwise, it is just a four-step process of vacuuming, mopping, polishing, and maintaining your hardwood floors.

Step 1: Vacuum Hardwood Floors

While you could try sweeping or using a dust mop as alternatives, using a vacuum to remove the dust, dirt, and debris is generally a more robust option. We recommend you make a habit of vacuuming your floors at least once per week to keep your hardwood floor in good condition.

Step 2: Mop Hardwood Floors

Once your floors are vacuumed, you can gently mop them with a damp (not wet) mop. Try your best to avoid leaving any standing puddles of water on the floor as it can destroy your wood floors. Acceptable alternatives to mopping include disposable wet pads and spray and mop products. Keep in mind that steam mops are not recommended for hardwood floors as they can damage the hardwood and ruin your floors.

Step 3: Use A Wood Floor Polish to Restore Shine

Occasionally, hardwood floors will scratch and dull, but luckily using a wood floor polish is a phenomenal way to restore your floor’s shine. Liquid scratch concealers also work as well. Keep in mind that if your floor contains natural hardwood, you will need to sand it lightly before applying any finish.

Step 4: Maintain Your Hardwood Floors

The single best way to keep your floors in good shape is to maintain them through vacuuming weekly and mopping them every other week. It is also suggested that you apply a new coat of finish to your floors every four years and sand and refinish your floors every ten years to keep them lasting for a long time.
